Consolidated Flooring Helps Bring the Obama Presidential Center to Life
CHICAGO, IL (June 19, 2026) – Consolidated Flooring’s Chicago office had the distinct honor of working with Lakeside Alliance to complete the Obama Presidential Center Museum, which is set to open this year on Juneteenth. Located on a 19.3-acre campus in Chicago’s historic Jackson Park, the museum features four exhibits across five levels, detailing President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s journey to and through the White House. The fifth level features a Sky Room with sprawling views of Chicago.
Our team installed site-finished wood flooring throughout the Center, including the library, program and exhibit spaces, the President’s and First Lady’s private quarters, the auditorium area, and a replica of the Oval Office. The installation included a full buildup of subfloor systems consisting of a sleeper system and plywood, with solid wood flooring on top that was sanded and sealed prior to the site finish.
Not only was the project itself special, but Lakeside Alliance also made a distinctive call for contractors to go above and beyond in creating opportunities for local and diverse participation. Specific participation requirements were established for MBE, WBE, BEPD, VBE, SDVBE, and LGBTBE businesses, as well as locally owned companies. Consolidated Flooring took this initiative one step further by partnering with Chicago Women in Trades, helping bring more women onto the job site and providing opportunities for our Chicago team to mentor students interested in joining the construction industry.
Consolidated Flooring is proud to have participated in this landmark project, and we congratulate our entire team on this achievement.
